The municipality of Grevena is situated on the northeastern slopes of the Pindos Mountain range, over shadowed by Greece’s second highest mountain Smolikas (2637 meters). From here and the peaks of Vasilitsa (2249m) and Ligkos (2177m) the valleys of Grevenon, Valia Kalda, Valia Krina, Valia Stathi as well as many smaller ones lope down into the surrounding eastern plains. The whole area is a national park and as such a protected area.
