There have been olives on Crete since ancient times. The local cultural clubs have become aware of the need to protect these trees and have, therefore, launched a programme for the preservation and enhancement of this natural heritage. The project in question is backed by the Technological Educational Institute of Crete and morally supported by the composer Mikis Theodorakis.
