The dense vegetation of
Mt Cholomontas,
its rich fauna and the sublime view that its wonderful landscapes boast are particularly appreciated by alternative tourism and agrotourism lovers. Lushly greened with pines, firs, chestnuts and age-long oaks, the mountain is traversed by many brooks and abounds in springs with crystal-clear cool water. White-clad in winter and offering sweet, refreshing air in summer, the unpolluted massif of Cholomontas stretches all over the subprefectures of
Arnaia and Polygyros;
it has excellent biodiversity and is suitable for hunting local hares and wild boars.
It is worth your while to explore the slopes of this mountain, arrive to the hospitable mountain village of
Taxiarchis
and experience a different contact with nature. The paths no. 16, 17 and 18 have been opened up to help tourists’ route. Trident signposts have been used for this purpose. If you love hunting, there are regions on
Mt Cholomontas
where wild boar and hare hunting is a popular and permitted practice. Mt Cholomontas will come as a great revelation to all those who have believed so far that
Chalkidiki
is only renowned for its coasts.
Nature lovers who want to explore
mountain Chalkidiki
can follow three
forestry paths
opened up in the region:
The Path no.16
starts from Polygyros and traverses neighbouring hills as well as wonderful landscapes.
The Path no.17
starts from the mountain village of Taxiarchis and ends in the village of Vrastama through a dense forest.
The Path no.18
starts from Vrastama and ends in the same village. Trekkers pass past the natural cave of Aghios Efthymios, a former hermitage which is now a chapel.
There are some sites along these routes that offer a
splendid view of the Aegean Sea
and the three peninsulas of the prefecture.
