Barrel-makers

Known as Kastritochoria, the villages near Kastri were famous for their barrel-makers, called “vayenades” and “varelades” in the local dialect. These people made barrels of all sorts and sizes, using the wood of cedars, maples, oaks, chestnuts and planes. They were also very skillful at making wonderful crafts, including household objects.
