Today, the buildings and streets of Florina reflect its history as well as its timeless, stately look. Florina is traversed by the Sakoulevas River. Along its banks, there are admirable, old neoclassic buildings and the workshops of local craftsmen who used the water of the river. The town’s architecture is fully consistent with the Macedonian style which accounts for its particular beauty too. Florina is dotted with many sights, as in every nook and cranny there are sculptures of various artists, such as Kalamaras and Dogoulis. This is one of the reasons why it is called the artists’ town. Its splendid locations captivate all people and serve as sources of deep thinking, inspiration and creation for them.
Florina provides a base for touring the entire prefecture and constitutes a magical all-season destination. You can tour its lakes, such as the Prespes Lakes, and visit three small churches that served as hermitages and are dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, the Saviour’s Transfiguration and the Ascension. You can also explore the traditional regions of the Prespes Lakes, Korestia and Nymphaio. The ski center of Pisoderi, at Vigla location, and the small country town of Amynteo are respectively 20 km and 36 km from the town of Florina.
