Dilofo.

Dilofo is situated 32 kilometers away from Ioannina, between two verdant hills and surrounded by thick vegetation. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful villages of Zaghori, a traditional settlement with old houses, which maintains its authenticity without any later interventions.
It was formerly called Sobotseli, which in the Slavic language means “land with plenty of water”. Ever since the Byzantine times, Dilofo has been recorded as an independent settlement. Along with other 13 communities, it signed an agreement with Pasha Kara Sinan in 1430. This agreement secured its independence. Later on three neighboring settlements joined Dilofo, thus forming a village. Even today, the three fairs that take place every summer have as starting point the different origin of the families of Dilofo.

The men of the village sought their fortune abroad, in Romania, Asia Minor and Egypt. Coming back to their village, they brought wealth and bourgeois customs that are shown in their beautiful mansions and schools that operated since 1600. All the houses of the village are very old and have their own story to tell. Worth visiting is the church of “Kimisi tis Theotokou” (Assumption of the Virgin) that was built in 1857, as well as the Great School of I. Anagnostopoulos that was built in 1855.
The village is not far from the gorge of Vikos, in the Vikos – Aoos National Forest, a protected area of exceptional natural beauty. The Byzantine monastery of Aghia Paraskevi (1413 – 1414 A.D) is found near the gorge and is built at the edge of a cliff.
